PhotoTrace is designed with your privacy in mind. The app operates primarily on your device. No data is collected or transmitted automatically — the only time data leaves your device is when you explicitly choose to send a debug report.
PhotoTrace requires access to your device's camera to display a live preview for tracing. The camera feed is displayed in real time on your screen and is never recorded, stored, or transmitted.
You can select photos from your library to use as tracing overlays. PhotoTrace uses your device's system photo picker, which provides access only to the specific photos you select. Your photos are processed on-device and are never uploaded or shared.
PhotoTrace maintains a local debug log on your device that records app actions (such as gestures, filter changes, and session events) along with basic device information (device model, OS version, app version). This log is stored only on your device and is used solely to help diagnose issues.
The debug log:
If you experience a problem, you can choose to send a debug report from the app's About screen. Before sending, you can review the full contents of the log to see exactly what will be shared. You may also optionally provide your email address so we can follow up.
When you send a debug report:
Outside of voluntarily submitted debug reports, PhotoTrace does not collect any data. Specifically:
PhotoTrace does not store photos or images beyond the current app session. The debug log is stored locally on your device. Submitted debug reports may be temporarily stored on our server until they can be reviewed.
